Designing with Birds and Lattice Patterns Spring 2014

Aviary and Bird fabrics are popping up everywhere and are the perfect addition to a new Spring look. Many of the busier bird patterns are being paired with trellis patterns in various bright, eye catching color options from turquoise, grass green, and yellows. These vivid colors work well with grey or silver colored walls. For walls that are full of color like reds, oranges, and blues you can pair silver or beige options. Branch and vine designs are a modern look that is beautiful as a drape. The branch pattern below creates a botanical look with the repeat pattern of the same throughout the drape

A warm tangerine branch pattern like DUA3 (above) as a drape in a nursery is beautiful paired with lullaby paints tangerine in a nursery.

Other fabric designers are pairing aqua and lime green. The aqua bird pattern below also mixes a chocolate brown background. All of this designer's fabrics coordinate to create a cheerful mix of pattern and color anywhere in your home. The hive pattern of JD14 and JD15 coordinate well with so many other fabric patterns, because it has a simple clean look.

Pair the fabrics above with walls in the Sherwin Williams paint colors below like Melange or Parakeet green. If  you want cool mint colored walls, Cucumber, Minted or Jocular paints would add the perfect color to your walls.

The bird patterns below mix black, white, and citrine. The navy trellis as a drape paired with the aviary citrine pattern and the citrine circle pattern, create a fresh look in a living or family room.

These imperial trellis type patterns are available in charcoal and beige and also look great paired with the navy and citrine colors.

The fresh aqua blue color of REN10 aviary fabric is a nice touch to a home with beige walls, such as, Behr's Sandstone cove and Castle Path paints.

Trellis drapes have become more and more popular. Imperial is a simple modern design that coordinates well with many other patterns, so it works as a focal point in a room as drapes, pillows, and furniture.  Imperial trellis prints can be found in many colors
 from Tangerine . . .

to brown trellis drapes. . . .

to kelly green . . . .

. . . .and black

Designer colors include charcoal, pink, yellow, chocolate, black and turquoise. Create a unique look in one of these Imperial Trellis fabrics or many other color options.

Another simple pattern that has hit the design world and has a simple, clean, and modern feel is riad quatrefoil. Much like the imperial trellis pattern it coordinates well with other patterns, such as florals. Designers continue to use these two patterns as eye catching drapes in any room. Universal patterns such as these can be used in traditional, cottage, modern, eclectic and many other room styles.

Nautical Nursery's and Rooms

Nautical rooms are becoming more and more popular with a host of modern nautical looks being used in nursery's.

This nursery pairs navy walls and a simple white drape with navy blue ribbon trim. These drapes have been created without lining for a sheer look, but a white blackout lining can be added to make nap time more functional for infants. Accents of boat pictures and red throw pillows add to the overall subtle nautical feel of the room. This room works perfect with Sherwin-Williams Loyal Blue

Navy or red chevron drapes are a nice touch to a nautical nursery. The drapes can grow with the infant into youth stages where many other fabric prints will coordinate to add bedding and pillows.  Navy is being paired with many colors for both boys and girls. Some colors are the lime green as pictured here. You can also pair navy will kelly green, coral, gray, some shades of pink, and yellow. The options are infinite. Add a silver paint like Sherwin-Williams gray screen  paint to give a nursery a calming and sophisticated look.

Throw pillows in red and white stripe and red rope or navy chevron and anchor will pull the room together perfectly.

Horizontal Stripe drapes add a clean look To a nautical room. These are similar to Pottery Barn's rugby drape and allow options later to keep the same stripe drapes as the nursery changes into a boy and teenager room. Stripes are functional with other prints that grow with the child. These are available in red/white and navy/white.

Navy and white stripe duvet covers and shams are another way to add a subtle nautical look as seen here with white bedding and formal wood nantucket head boards. Add solid navy drapes in a cotton or linen as seen below with simple rope tie backs to a nursery and then later update to an older looking room with the stripe duvets or one in a pillow fabric seen above.

Simple nautical touches can add pattern to a beach home with navy patterned pillows in a room with white linen drapes, a white sofa, a navy patterned rug, and red leather accent chairs. Sherwin-Williams blue mosque creates the perfect wall color for the room.
